2. Should this recommendation be favourably considered, application would be made for the services of a Non-Commissioned Officer to take the appointment as Orderly Room Clerk, which should, if possible, be made tenable for 5 years, the N.C. Officer so employed to receive extra duty pay at the rate of 1 dollar per diem in addition to his ordinary regimental pay rank.

The present Corps Qr. Mr. Sergeant should be appointed Corps Sergeant Major, with additional remuneration at 20 dollars per mensem, as it is advisable that he should be the Senior N.C. Officer of the Corps, a post to which he is, by his service and qualifications, fitted, and should take his place on parade accordingly.

I consider that the above proposals are of an extremely urgent nature, as in the event of the Corps Qr. Mr. Sergeant being absent through illness or other cause, no one remains at Volunteer Headquarters; and as it will be seen, it would only necessitate an additional expense to the Volunteer Vote of 50 dollars per mensem, I would urge very early sanction.

I have &c.

(Signed.) M. M. Morris,

Major, R.G.A.;

Acting Commandant,

Hong Kong Volunteer Corps.
